The Ogun Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) may have witnessed a reduction in incidences of attacks on its officers by smugglers.
The border communities in the state, known to be volatile due to the activities of smugglers who have over time with the use of dangerous weapons including charms to attack officers and sometimes escape arrest, have always been a major concern for serving Area Controllers in the state.
Public Relations Officer of the command, Chike Ngige, in a chat with SHIPS & PORTS DAILY said that the reduction in attacks of officers is as a result of the strategic measures put in place by the Area Controller, Comptroller Ade Dosunmu.
He said the command in collaboration with the traditional rulers of the border communities have embarked on anti-smuggling campaign which has been yielding the desired results.
He said the youths who are often engaged by the smugglers have also been enlightened on the dangers of the nefarious act.
“It is as a result of the strategic arrangement put in place by the present administration of this command headed by controller Ade Dosunmu. He met with the stakeholders and traditional rulers and even with the youths who are being used by these smugglers to perpetrate this act. He was able to get them together and tell them why they should not encourage smuggling,” Ngige said.
