ONE begins container operations

Japanese container line merger Ocean Network Express (ONE) officially started operations on Sunday, April 1.

ONE, formed by a merger of the container line businesses of Mitsui OSK Lines, Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK) and Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K Line), is the world’s sixth largest container line offering 85 services linking over 200 ports worldwide.

The merged company has set out an ambitious target in the highly competitive container shipping space.

“ONE is focused on offering superior quality and the most competitive service throughout its network. Each service has been developed to provide clients with the highest level of satisfaction. ONE aims to transform the global container business with totally new and innovative services,” the company stated.

ONE started taking bookings on 1 February and the three legacy companies will now be in “sunset mode”.

In the run-up to its launch, ONE had already caused a stir in ports around the world and on social media with its distinctive magenta branding.
