The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Port Harcourt II Area Command, Onne, Rivers State on Thursday March 7 raked in an unprecedented N22.1 billion in revenue.
The amount, which is N6.1 billion higher than the N16 billion record set by the Apapa Area Command on 23rd February, is the highest daily revenue collection by any Customs command in the history of the service.
The Controller of the Command, Comptroller Baba Imam, said the record revenue haul was made possible by constant engagement with stakeholders, zero tolerance for leakages, intelligence sharing and continuous insistence on trade compliance.
“Also, an unprecedented monthly revenue of N51billion was equally recorded in the month of February 2024 as against N41 billion ever generated in previous months and years,” Imam said.
He said a total of N124.1 billion was generated in first 49 working days of 2024, which surpasses the sum of N119 billion generated in the first six months of 2023.
“The command surpassed it daily target of N1.9 billion by over 1000% which is the first in the history of daily collections in the command.
“The revenue milestone of February 2024 represents 23.3% increase above the command’s monthly revenue target of N41.1 billion, when compared to the same period in February 2023 where the command generated N17.1 billion.
“The Command is optimistic and deploying various strategies to ensure that this trend continues in order to also surpass not only the monthly target, but equally surpass the target of N494.1 billion for year 2024,” the Area Controller said.
He said in addition to its outstanding revenue collection, the command has received a letter of commendation from the Comptroller-General of Customs “for aligning with the CGC’s work-life balance initiative”.
