The Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, His Excellency Dr Adegboyega Oyetola, CON, has congratulated Engr. Greg Ogbeifun, pioneer President of the Shipowners Association of Nigeria (SOAN) and Chairman of Starzs Investments Company Limited, on the occasion of his 75th birthday, describing him as a towering figure in Nigeria’s maritime industry.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday by his Special Adviser, Dr Bolaji Akinola, the Minister hailed Engr. Ogbeifun’s lifetime of enterprise and service, noting that he has contributed to the growth and development of the nation’s maritime and offshore sectors.
“This significant milestone offers a fitting moment to celebrate a life marked by enterprise and enduring contributions to the growth and development of Nigeria’s maritime industry,” Dr Oyetola stated.
The Minister commended Engr. Ogbeifun’s leadership in advancing indigenous participation in shipping and offshore operations, particularly through his pioneering role in establishing and leading SOAN, the umbrella body for indigenous shipowners in Nigeria. He noted that Ogbeifun’s business initiatives have not only built successful enterprises but have also contributed to strengthening Nigeria’s local capacity.
“Your business endeavours have not only created value but have also contributed to capacity development, employment generation and the broader objective of strengthening local content within the maritime and offshore sectors,” the Minister said.
As Chairman of Starzs Investments Company Limited, Engr. Ogbeifun has overseen the growth of one of Nigeria’s prominent indigenous maritime service companies, playing a key role in vessel ownership, offshore support services, and industry advocacy. Stakeholders credit him with helping to deepen Nigerian ownership in a sector once largely dominated by foreign operators.
Beyond his corporate accomplishments, Oyetola praised the celebrant’s commitment to national service and mentorship.
“Your career reflects a deep sense of service to the nation and a belief in Nigeria’s maritime potential. You have consistently exemplified integrity, strategic foresight and mentorship, inspiring a new generation of industry leaders to pursue excellence and innovation,” he noted.
The Minister emphasized that as Nigeria advances its Marine and Blue Economy agenda, the experience and institutional memory of stakeholders like Engr. Ogbeifun remain invaluable.
