A passenger boat enroute from the Five Cowries Terminal, Ikoyi to Badagry malfunctioned while underway amid heavy rainfall in Lagos on Friday.
The 18 passengers of the boat, including children, were, however, successfully evacuated from the craft amidst the heavy downpour that characterised the Lagos metropolis on Friday.
According to a source, the incident occurred at about 2 pm, when the boat suddenly stopped mid-river about five minutes into the journey.
Managing Director of the Lagos State Water Authority (LASWA), Damilola Emmanuel, said all passengers were saved from drowning.
“No cause for alarm. All passengers have been successfully rescued while the boat moved to safer harbour till the heavy rain stopped and will be taken to dry dock for technical assessment,” he said.
