The Managing Director of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Hadiza Bala-Usman, was on Thursday presented with the prestigious Maritime Cup won by the NPA Football Team, otherwise known as the Hadiza Warriors.
NPA won the trophy for the first time this year, a feat many of the players attributed to the unique support given to them by Bala-Usman.
The NPA team defeated NIMASA 4-1 on Tuesday evening to lift the coveted trophy.
“We have participated in the Maritime Cup Competition many times in the past but we never reached the finals, talk less of winning the coveted trophy. This is the first time this is happening so we are excited and we thank our MD for giving us all the support to make this happen.
“You know that all the agencies and private companies in the maritime industry compete very hard every year to win the coveted trophy but it is always tough. We must not fail to commend Hajia Hadiza Bala-Usman for reviving sports in NPA.
“You know that before her appointment, sports died completely in NPA. This was so sad because in the past, NPA was a household name in football and other competitive sports. I think our MD is taking us back to that glorious height again,” an NPA senior staff, who is also a member of the Hadiza Warriors told SHIPS & PORTS DAILY.
