Two employees of the Atlantic Shrimp Company have been killed by pirates off Bonny, the President of the Nigerian Trawler Owners Association, Akinsola Amire has said.
Three more employees of the same company were reportedly kidnapped by the pirates and another two sustained injuries in the attack.
Amire said, “It occurred on board Atlantic Shrimpers vessel. The injured employees are out of the hospital.
“The pirates have made contact with the owner of the vessel; they demanded for N24m. The navy and the supervising ministry have been informed.”
Amire added that the association would be meeting with the officers of the Nigeria Navy Shipyard Beecroft on the issue.
Piracy has been identified as one of the major factors responsible for the dwindling number of fishing companies in the country.
