Pirates hit product tanker off Indonesia

A group of pirates hijacked a product tanker off the coast of Indonesia on Wednesday last week before making off with the ship’s cargo.
The hijacking was confirmed by the International Maritime Bureau’s Piracy Reporting Centre.
According to the report, a group of 15 to 25 armed pirates boarded and hijacked a product tanker while underway on April 1 approximate 62 nautical miles of Pulau Uwi, Indonesia.
Once onboard, the pirates took the crew hostage, damaged all equipment and stole personal belongings.
The pirates also transferred the ship’s cargo into another vessel and escaped, the report said.
All crew are safe and the tanker is sailing to a safe port, the IMB report said.
