Police arraign man for stealing N20,000 phone in Apapa

The police on Wednesday arraigned Ismaila Afeez (43) before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing one Tecno phone worth N20,000 in Apapa.

Afeez is facing a one-count charge of stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 15, 2019 at about 2:50pm at No 4, Alade Street, Oluti, Apapa.

“The defendant stole one Tecno camera phone valued at N20,000 property of one Abiodun Oloye,” Ekpo said.

According to him, the offence is punishable under section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.

Magistrate Nurudeen Layeni granted him bail in the sum of N20,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.

The sureties are required to furnish the court with proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government.

He adjourned the case till May 20, 2019 for mention.
