The police on Tuesday arraigned a 24-year-old man, Joshua Igweoria, before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly throwing offensive weapons at passengers at the Maza-Maza Motor Park in Lagos.
Igweoria is facing a two-count charge of attempting to commit felony and breach of peace. He however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Inspector Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on December 15, 2019 at about 11:30pm at Maza-Maza Motor Park along Badagry Expressway.
“The defendant attempted to commit felony to wit stealing with others at large and conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by harassing innocent people with a machete, throwing bottles and stones at passengers which caused stampede at the motor park,” Aigbokhan said.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 406 and 168(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
Magistrate Olorunfemi Oluwatope granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum. The surety is required to furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the case till January 6, 2020 for mention.
