Police arraign man for burglary, stealing

The police on Monday arraigned a 19 year-old man, Lekan Tajudeen, before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for alleged burglary and stealing money belonging to a car dealer at Maza-Maza, Lagos.

Tajudeen is facing a two-count charge of burglary and stealing. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Inspector Marvellous Obongha, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on January 6, 2020 at about 4am at Alahun Ozumba Street, Maza-Maza, Lagos.

“The defendant broke and entered into the shop of one Awalu Isa and stole a wallet containing the sum of N9,000,” Obongha said.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 309 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

Magistrate K.A Ariyo granted the defendant in the sum of N10,000 with one surety in like sum. The surety must be a blood relation to the defendant and furnish the court with proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government.

The Magistrate adjourned the matter till February 3, 2020 for mention.
