Man docked for stealing N.5m jewelries, N150,000 cash

A 28-year-old man, Odesola Kazeem, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing jewelries valued at N500,000 and the sum of 150,000 cash at the complainant’s residence.

Kazeem is facing a one-count charge of stealing.

The prosecutor, ASP Bisi Ogunleye, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on December 6, 2019 at about 3pm at Block 210, Flat 2, Low Cost Housing Estate, Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos.

“The defendant stole the sum of N150,000 cash and jewelries valued at N500,000 property of one Margret Kemi Onabanji,” Ogunleye said.

According to her, the offence is punishable under section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Magistrate Temitope Babalola granted him N200,000 bail with two responsible sureties in like sum.

The sureties are required to be gainfully employed and furnish the court with proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government.

Babalola said one of the sureties must be a blood relation to the defendant.

He adjourned the matter till January 13, 2020 for mention.
