Deportee pleads guilty to stealing N794,000

A 27-year-old deportee, identified as Kafayat Waheed, on Tuesday pleaded guilty to stealing the sum of N794,000 belonging to other deportees before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court in Lagos.

Waheed is facing a two-count charge of fraud and stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Olugbenga Salami, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on October 14, 2019 at about 12:42pm.

“The defendant by means of fraudulent, trick one Mr Francis Michael to deliver and pay to her (Waheed) the sum of N794,000 property of one Afolabi Saheed Adewale and Ajibode Misturah Omolade.

“The defendant also dishonestly converted the sum of N794,000 for her own  use with intent to permanently deprive one Afolabi Saheed Adewale and Ajibode Misturah Omolade of their property,” Salami said.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 323(1) and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendant pleaded guilty to the charges against her.

Magistrate Rasheedat Williams-Isichei adjourned the case till November 20, 2019 for fact and sentence.
