Police arraign three men for assaulting truck driver, motorboys

Three men namely Kayode Babatunde (24), Segun Adewale (24) and Semiu
Lawal (28) were on Tuesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court
for allegedly assaulting a truck driver and some motorboys at Kirikiri.

Babatunde, Adewale and Lawal are facing a seven-count charge of conspiracy, assault and stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Augustine Ejembi, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on October 1, 2018 at about 7pm along Okoduwa Street, Kirikiri.

“The defendants conspired with others at large to cause breach of peace. They assaulted one Balogun Abiodun by giving him fist blow all over his body and his right eye which caused him bodily injury,” Ejembi said.

The prosecutor also said that the defendants assaulted one Rabiu Jelili by hitting him with a club on his back, which caused him bodily injury.

They also allegedly maliciously and unlawfully damaged the windscreen and side mirror of Mack Track vehicle registration number AAA 483 XA valued at N100,000 property of one Rabiu Jelili.

Ejembi added that the defendants assaulted one Adeniyi Ayotunde by hitting and beating him all over his body, which caused him injury on his chin.

They also assaulted one Ajibola Samari by hitting him with a bottle on his head and all over his body, which caused him bodily harm.

The accused also allegedly stole one Infinix Hot 6 valued at N37,000 belonging to Ajibola Samari.

The offences are punishable under sections 411, 44, 173, 350 and 287 of
the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.

All the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them.

Magistrate O.M Ajayi granted the defendants bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties each in like sum.

The sureties are to furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

The case was adjourned till October 24, 2018 for mention.
