A middle-aged truck driver, Joshua Chimaobi, was on Thursday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly driving recklessly and dangerously in Apapa.
Chimaobi is facing a three-count charge bordering on reckless and dangerous driving.
The prosecutor, Inspector Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on January 24, 2019 at about 10:45am along Berger by MTN office, Apapa.
“The defendant being the driver in charge of Mack truck with registration number GGE 912 XT drove same vehicle on the public highway in a reckless and dangerous manner,” Ekpo said.
The prosecutor also said that the defendant drove same vehicle in a careless and inconsiderate manner. Ekpo added that the defendant drove same vehicle without driver’s license.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 19(1), 18(1) and 22 of Road Traffic Act 2012.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
Magistrate Nurudeen Layeni granted the defendant bail in the sum of N20,000 with two reliable sureties in like sum.
The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must be gainfully employed with proof and furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the case till February 6, 2019 for mention.
