A 35-year-old truck manager, Ojo Alaba Charles, was on Thursday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly committing traffic offences caused by his driver.
Charles is facing a two-count charge bordering on traffic offences and damaging another vehicle.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Marvellous Obongha, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on October 31, 2018 at about 2:25pm along Kola Bus Stop, Ajegunle, Apapa.
“The defendant being the manager in charge of one Mack truck with registration number GGE 663 XU which his driver, Oghenero Ogaga, drove same on the public highway in a manner dangerous to other road users,” Obongha said.
The prosecutor also said that the defendant’s driver caused damage to one Mitsubishi Canter with registration number KRD 528 XF whose value is yet unknown.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 18 of the Road Traffic Act, Cap 124 Vol 6 Law of Lagos State 2015.
The Counsel to the defendant opposed the charges on the grounds that the offences were not committed by his client.
The defendant also pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.
Magistrate K. A Ariyo said the defendant cannot be punished for the offences he didn’t commit. She therefore struck out the matter.
