The police on Friday arraign two men, Omosowone Nasiri (38) and Abo Titus (41), before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly causing pandemonium and possessing dangerous weapons in Apapa.
The duo is facing a three-count charge of threatening violence, possessing dangerous weapons and breach of peace.
The prosecutor, ASP Gabriel Ekundayo, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on October 10, 2019 at about 6:30pm at Otun Street, Kirikiri Town, Apapa.
“The defendants being member of a rival secret society did unlawfully conducted themselves in a disorderly manner by engaging in free fight and disturbing the peace of members of the public and causing injuries to each other.
“They also conducted themselves in a disorderly manner which threw the residents into pandemonium by chasing each other around the street with dangerous weapons,” Ekundayo said.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 56(a)(b)(2), 168(1) and 168(1)(h) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.
Chief Magistrate, Mukaila Fadeyi, granted them bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The sureties are required to furnish the court with one year tax payment to Lagos State Government. One of the sureties must be a blood relation to each of the defendants.
The Magistrate adjourned the case till October 30, 2019 for mention.
