The police on Tuesday arraigned Ndubisi Winners (19) and Jamiu Ojomoh (21) before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing phones with dangerous weapons at Apapa.
Winners and Ojomoh are facing a five-count charge bordering on conspiracy, stealing and possession of dangerous weapons.
The prosecutor, Inspector Augustine Ejembi, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on December 1, 2018 at about 8:20pm at No 16/18, Cardoso Street, Ajegunle, Apapa.
“The defendants conspired together with three others to steal one Samsung J3 phone valued at N70,000 property of one Vivian Gurube,” Ejembi said.
The prosecutor also said that the defendants stole one Infinix Hot 4 Lite phone valued at N48,000 property of one Adekoya Sesan.
Ejembi added that the defendants stole one Nokia 3310 phone valued at N3,500 and cash sum of N7,000, total, N10,500 property of one Kate Ishoku.
The prosecutor told the court that the defendants had in their cutlasses, knives and other dangerous weapons for the purpose of robbery.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 299, 287 and 300(b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them.
Magistrate O.M Ajayi granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.
The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the case till December 20, 2018 for mention.
