Police arraigns truck driver for breach of peace in Apapa

Four docked for stealing items worth N.7m at Apapa port

The Police has arraigned a 20-year-old truck driver, Taiwo Wasiu, who hails from Ojulere village, Ibadan, Oyo State before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly causing a breach of peace at Sandfield area, Tin-Can Island Port, Apapa.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Ephraim Mbaatinga told the court that the accused committed the offence on November 4, 2017 at 1:45pm at Sandfield area, Tin-Can Island Port, Apapa.

He said the accused conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace.

Mbaatinga said the accused wilfully damaged some items including cooked rice, meat, fish, eggs, soft drinks, umbrella, cover of terminal batteries charger and the sum of N15,000 cash.

The prosecutor added that the properties of the following persons worth N100,000 were damaged by the accused: Tiamiyu Sulaimon of no. 23, Egbado Street, Ajegunle, Moji Ogunleye of no. 24, Oke-Olu Street, Lawanson, Taiwo Amoke of no. 15b Abunru Street, Olodi Apapa and Modina Nelson of no. 25 Ebenezer Street, Coconut, Apapa.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened Sections 409, 348 and 166(d) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011.

The truck driver pleaded guilty to the three-count charge against him.

The Magistrate, Mrs A.O Adegite adjourned the case till November 16, 2017 for facts and sentence.

Seven truck drivers and a hairdresser had earlier been arraigned before the court for the same offence on Tuesday. They are Ajani Fatimah, 28, Sunday Olakunle, 26, Ahmed Azeez, 22, Sunday Eyinola, 25, Amao Ojo, 23, Ibrahim Yahaya, 41, Israel Cyril, 23, and Sunday Idowu, 25.
