The police on Wednesday has arrested and arraigned a 32-year-old man, Harrison Augustine, before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing the half engine of a pumping machine from Apapa Port, Lagos.
Ausgustine who does not have a fixed address is facing a one-count charge of unlawful possession. He pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, Inspector Loveth Edobo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 13, 2020 at about 4am at Itapeju Street, Apapa.
“The defendant was arrested while being unlawfully in possession of half engine of pumping machine valued at N60,000 property of one Abdullahi Suleiman which is believed to have been stolen by him from Apapa Port, Lagos,” Edobo said.
According to her, the offence is punishable under section 340 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
Magistrate M.O Kadiri granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum. The sureties are required to furnish the court with proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the matter till March 26, 2020 for mention.
