The Commissioner of Police, Ports Authority Police (Western) Command, Oluwatoyin Agbaminoja, has called on Port Security Officers and Chief Security Officers of terminal operators across Nigeria’s western ports to intensify information sharing and promptly report any suspicious activity that could threaten port security or disrupt economic operations.
The charge was delivered during a strategic meeting in Lagos with PSOs and CSOs from terminals operating across the western ports, part of ongoing efforts to reinforce security coordination and enhance efficiency within the port environment.
The gathering underscored the growing importance of unified action in safeguarding one of the nation’s most critical commercial lifelines.
In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Isaac Hundeyin, the commissioner emphasised that sustained collaboration between the police and port security stakeholders remains essential to protecting vital national assets, preventing criminal activity and ensuring uninterrupted port operations.
She reaffirmed the command’s commitment to proactive policing, intelligence-led strategies and continuous engagement with stakeholders, while urging security officers within the ports to adhere strictly to established protocols.
Discussions at the meeting also extended to the security of waterways across the western ports. Participants reviewed current measures and explored ways to strengthen surveillance, improve patrol coordination and deepen intelligence sharing to counter emerging threats within port waterways and adjoining maritime corridors.
The Port Security Officer of Apapa Port, Buka Kaumi, alongside his Tin Can Island counterpart, Eleta Paulinus, praised the Ports Authority Police Command for its professionalism and steadfast dedication to maintaining strong security across the western ports.
They noted that the command’s visible presence and effective deployment of personnel ensured a peaceful and disruption-free port environment throughout the festive season and into the new year.
Both officers reaffirmed their commitment to closer cooperation with the command, expressing confidence that sustained partnership will continue to deliver a safe, secure and business-friendly port system across the western maritime corridor.
