A 33-year-old truck driver, Akiti Stephen, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing N100,000 belonging to Denko Terminal Garage.

Stephen is facing a one-count charge of stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Bassey, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on December 18, 2018 at about 5am at Denko Terminal, Amuwo-Odofin, Apapa, Lagos.

“The defendant stole the sum of N100,000 property of one Denko Terminal Garage,” Bassey said.

According to him, the offence is punishable under section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.

Meanwhile, the Investigative Police Officer (IPO) said the defendant was given the sum of N100,000 for transportation expenses to covey goods inside a container. The defendant absconded with the money together with the truck.

However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

Magistrate, A.S Okubule granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety.

The surety, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the case till January 21, 2019 for mention.
