The Western Ports Command of the Nigeria Police Force on Wednesday met with representatives of the various freight forwarding associations, truck operators and workers union to discuss measures aimed at improving security at the nation’s seaports.
The meeting which was held at the instance of the Commissioner in charge of the Westerns Ports Police Command, Kayode Aderanti, was held at the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Headquarters Annex, Marina, Lagos.
The meeting, which was held behind closed door, discussed sundry security issues and the responsibilities of all stakeholders in ensuring that effective security is maintained at the ports while the Police is given necessary cooperation in exercising its statutory responsibilities.
Aderanti reportedly appealed to the representatives of the various groups in attendance at the meeting to sensitize their members on the need to treat the issue of port security as a challenge and be ready to volunteer information of suspicious items and movement of persons to the Police.
The meeting was attended by leaders of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) including the National President, Prince Olayiwola Shittu, representatives of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF), Association of Maritime Truck Owners (AMATO), Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) and the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) among others.
