Bushehr Port registers record in unloading, reloading container goods

Some 61% increase in the volume of unloading and reloading of container commodities in the first half of the current Iranian year (started March 21) has registered a new record in Bushehr port, it was announced here.

Mohammad Rastad, director general of the provincial Ports and Shipping Department made the remarks while speaking to reporters on the occasion of the National Maritime Week.

He noted that during the said period, 180,839 containers were unloaded and reloaded in this port which put it in the second place among container carrier ports in the country.

He said 2.7 million tons of commodities were unloaded and reloaded during the said period, showing an increase of 20% compared with the same period last year.

Meanwhile, 241 ocean going vessels which transited the Bushehr Port for unloading and reloading commodities during this period registered a 7% increase which indicates the welcome accorded by the traders and shipping lines for the development approach in the port.

Pointing to the operation of Negin Port Complex in Bushehr, Rastad said operation has been launched for development of the complex by building an access road and protective dock each with a length of three kilometers, adding that export of minerals from the complex started last year.

So far, 400 thousand tons of minerals have been exported from the Complex and soon part of the container activities would be transferred to the new environment in the Negin Island.
