PTML Customs boss, Jibrin promises fraudulent importers tough times
…As command rakes in over 71bn as revenue in 2012
“Tough times await fraudulent importers operating at the Port and Terminal Multi- Services Limited the PTML Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service.”
Those were the words of the Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the command, Comptroller Zakari Jibrin.
He was speaking while giving a brief on the command activities for 2012, stating that its good relations with genuine importers, agencies and service providers will be maintained and remain a priority in his administration.
He warned fraudulent importers, saying “my officers and men will smoke you out if you don’t leave PTML.”
Meanwhile, the command says it has recorded a total of N721, 267, 589, 007.00 as revenue generated from January to December 2012.
This is against the sum of N51, 264, 053, 039.00 that was realised in 2011.
The figure, which was contained in a statement signed by the Customs Public Relations Officer of the command, Chief Superintendent Steve Okonmah, shows an increase of 39 percent.
A breakdown of the figure shows that a total of N43,835,737,872.00 went into the Federation Account, while N27,431,851,135.00 went into the non-Federation Account.
According to the statement, this was in spite of the drop in the volume of importation in the second half of the year.
“The command had its share of ups and down, however, the leadership skills of the Controller, Comptroller Zakari Jibrin, and determination on the part of the highly-motivated officers steered the ship back on course,” the document noted.
In its anti smuggling drive, a total of 15 containers of assorted contrabands and three vehicles were recorded.
