Qatar to build $4bn container port

Qatar has awarded construction contracts worth $3.8bn for a new container port, which is to be part of the New Port Project (NPP).
Located in Mesaieed, south of Doha, NPP will be able to handle two million containers when the first phase is complete in 2016.
After the subsequent two phases are complete, Emirates 24/7 reports that a capacity of six million tonnes will be reached.
In keeping with Qatar’s 2030 National Vision, which promotes diversity and sustainability, nearly 53 percent of the awarded contracts had been won by Qatari firms.
