Russian grants ports international status

The Russian government has confirmed the international status of all Russian seaports including the Republic of Crimea, according to a report by Russian news agency ITAR – TASS.

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev commented on the signing of the decree noting, “some of the documents that were previously confirmed by opening of seaports for international communications as either obsolete or in some cases simply been lost, and this discrepancy led to the relevant legal delays.”

“Boundary and customs procedures for arriving of foreign ships will be much easier. Now you do not need any additional permits and approvals, and the ports themselves will be able to work in a more vigorous manner, in full force,” said the prime minister.

Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich added that over the past 25 years, “our ports existed de jure without completely certain status, although de facto they were open to the entry of foreign ships.”
