Determined to enforce a new port order, the Shippers Association Lagos State (SALS) visited Dangote Port Operation and Greenview Development Terminal Limited (GDNL) to seek support for the actualization of their course.
While addressing the Managing Director of Dangote Port Operation, Capt. Joshua Oyewunmi yesterday, the President of SALS, Rev. Jonathan Nicol said the association came on the visit to seek support for well organised port reform.
The port reform, according to Nicole, would reduce cost of doing business at a drastically reduced and controlled rate.
Nicole disclosed that the new port order when fully operational would allowed for proper cargo management in the port.
He said, “Not much has been achieved on proper cargo management yet. Nigeria Customs Service is yet to provide the enabling platforms to instill sanity in cargo management and this affect our operations.
“The old order of queries and inflation of dutiable good are still the order of the day.
“We are here to solicit more financial, moral and professional support in terms of presenting our program before the President and Commander- in- Chief of this country and also seek recognition within government circles,” he said.
Oyewunmi promised to help the association to achieve the order it yearned for.
“The shippers are very instrumental to the economy of this country, without them there is no terminal operators, shipping lines, clearing agents and even government agencies.
“We have to give you support, financial support because there is nothing one can do without your support because without you we may derail,” he said.
