Sea robbers kill one, injure several others in Niger Delta

A three-man sea robbery gang has reportedly killed a middle aged man and inflicted machete cuts on several passengers travelling along the Tuomo/Ojobo creek in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State.
The incident occurred between the border towns of Tuomo in Delta and Aleibiri community of Bayelsa State on Wednesday night causing tension amongst early morning travellers.
A source disclosed that the deceased, identified as Mr. Wiki was travelling alongside 12 passengers.

The source said that while the speed boat was sailing between Tuomo and Aleibiri communities, they heard gunshots coming from another speedboat that was trailing them.
He said the three armed sea-robbers forced their boat to stop mid sea, dispossessed them of money and other valuables and started inflicting machete cuts on their victims and threw all the passengers overboard.
The source said the deceased, Mr. Wiki, who was returning from Warri where he attended the Torugbene Elders Forum meeting, could not survive the attack due to the injuries he sustained in the attack. He reportedly drowned while trying to swim to the shore.
