Shanghai port box volumes register 2.4% rise in March

China’s Shanghai port has handled increased container throughput in March over the previous corresponding period, according to figures from Shanghai International Port (Group) Co (SIPG).

Box volumes moved in March were registered at 3.01 million TEU, representing an increase of 2.4% from 2.94 million TEU seen in the same month of 2015, SIPG figures showed.

Last month’s volumes also rose by 16.2% from 2.59 million TEU in February this year.

In the first quarter of 2016, Shanghai port recorded a total throughput of 8.54 million TEU, inching down by 1.5% from 8.67 million TEU in the same period of last year.
