Shanghai port container throughput inches down in April

Container volumes at Shanghai, the world’s busiest container port, has inched up in April compared to the same month of 2015, according to figures released by Shanghai International Port (Group) Co (SIPG).

Last month’s box throughput was registered at 3.12m teu, inching up 0.3% from 3.11m teu moved in April 2015, SIPG data showed.

On a month-on-month comparison, throughput also went up from 3.01m teu recorded in March this year.

In the first four months of 2016, Shanghai port handled a total throughput of 11.66m teu, a decrease of 1% from 11.78m teu seen in the previous corresponding period.
