Shanghai port handles higher box throughput in May

China’s port of Shanghai has seen its container throughput rose in May, according to figures released by Shanghai International Port (Group) Co (SIPG).

Container volumes handled last month were recorded at 3.16m teu, an increase of 4.7% compared to 3.02m teu registered in the same period of 2014, SIPG data showed.

On a month-on-month comparison, volumes rose 1.5% from 3.11m teu handled in April this year.

In the first five months of this year, Shanghai port moved a total throughput of 14.95m teu, up 4.2% from 14.35m teu achieved in the previous corresponding period.
