The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) said yesterday that it would collaborate with the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC) to speed up the establishment of truck transit parks nationwide.
Executive Secretary of the council, Mr Hassan Bello made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
“A transit park is a very important, modern infrastructure; the transport infrastructure is a reflection of the nation’s growth.
“These modern parks will have a lot of facilities where truckers will stay, have their hotels, garages, gas stations and so many other things.
“We are talking with the Kogi State Government. A land has just now been earmarked by Kogi State Government.
“In fact, it is being surveyed right now; we are taking about compensation; this must be on PPP (Private Public Partnership) basis.
“We are going to have a drive for a partnership with the private sector together with the ICRC.
“The ICRC and Nigerian Shippers’ Council will soon have a retreat in February to look at the transport infrastructure generally and see how the private sector could galvanise these infrastructures, including the truck transit park and the Inland Container Depot.”
