Singapore container volumes rise 3.5% in September

The port of Singapore recorded 2.81 million TEU of box volumes in September, increasing from a year ago, according to preliminary estimates from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

Container throughput last month rose 3.5% year-on-year but volumes dipped 2.1% compared to 2.87 million TEU handled in August this year, figures from MPA showed.

In the first nine months of this year, Singapore port moved a total throughput of 25.13 million TEU, up 3.4% compared to 24.3 million TEU in the same period of 2013.

Last year, Singapore was ranked the world’s second busiest port with an annual throughput of 32.6 million TEU, behind first place Shanghai port with 36.62 million TEU.
