Singapore port sees box volumes drop 3.5% in March

The port of Singapore moved lower container throughput in March compared to a year ago, but volumes rose month-on-month, according to preliminary estimates from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

In March, Singapore port recorded throughput of 2.74m teu, down 3.5% compared to 2.84m teu registered in the same period of 2014, MPA figures showed.

On a month-on-month comparison, box volumes in March improved by 5% compared to 2.61m teu seen in February.

In the first three months of 2015, Singapore port handled a total throughput of 8.13m teu, up 2.4% compared to 7.94m teu recorded in the previous corresponding period.
