Sri Lankan navy detains four Indian fishermen for poaching

The Sri Lanka Navy and the Sri Lanka Coast Guard nabbed four Indian fishermen yesterday for poaching in the country’s northern waters, the navy media unit said.

The navy said that a fishing trawler belonging to the Indian fishermen was also taken into custody.

They said that the arrested fishermen along with the fishing trawler were handed over to officials of the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources of Kankasanthurai, in the north, for further action.

The arrest came just days after 29 Indian fishermen were detained by the Sri Lankan navy for illegally entering its waters in the north and north western seas.

Report says Sri Lanka and India, have been trying to resolve the long standing fishermen issue.
