Towage and emergency response firm Svitzer has ventured into the Malaysian market with the establishment of a new joint venture with Malaysia’s SVR Marine Services.

The joint venture with SVR Marine will support Svitzer’s strategic objective of entering new markets and broadening its portfolio, according to Svitzer, the towage division of Denmark’s AP Moller-Maersk.

“Malaysian market boasts an advanced LNG industry and expanding port operations. Our objective is to supply the Malaysian market with a new standard of towage under the Malaysian flag – providing ports world class towage,” said Lise Demant, managing director for Svitzer Asia.

Abd Razak Ahmad Alkamal, managing director for SVR Marine, commented: “The entry of global player Svitzer in the Malaysia market marks the maturity and readiness of local marine-related industries including port operators and the oil & gas sector to opt for world-class towage solutions.”

SVR Marine is established in 2014 to provide agency services for harbor and terminal towage using tugs and equipment.
