No fewer than three persons were feared dead, Tuesday, when a container fell off an articulated truck along Apapa/Oshodi expressway and landed on commuters waiting for buses at Otto-Wharf bus-stop, killing three of them. Others reportedly sustained injuries.
According to reports, the driver of the truck with number plate XG 616 UWN attempted to overtake a vehicle at the bus-stop, at about 2.30pm, and suddenly the empty container fell off, landing on unsuspecting commuters.
When journalists arrived the scene, a Federal Road Safety Corps official who identified himself simply as Chigbo said the truck driver was on high speed and could not control it when he got to the bus-stop.
The driver of a car and two other persons waiting to board buses to their respective destinations, according to him, were affected, adding that the container was removed and the victims rushed to an undisclosed hospital.
To widen their knowledge of their profession as customs brokers and provide them opportunities to network with cargo owners, carriers, forwarders and ports that have more cargo and stronger business relationships in Africa, about twenty members of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) are presently in attendance of the Breakbulk Africa Congress 2013.
The congress promises insights into project cargo transportation, logistics education, strategy and networking which according to the National Secretary of ANLCA, Dr Emmanuel Ogu Oparah, “will help their knowledge of custom brokerage “.
Speaking with Ships & Ports at the venue of the congress, Oparah said that the congress would afford members of the association the benefit of “exposure to international freight forwarding” while commending the National President of ANLCA, Prince Olayiwola Shittu, on his foresight to encourage members of the association partake in such international forums.
Also speaking with Ships & Ports, Head of ANLCA International Affairs Committee, Mr. Tope Ogungbemile, described the congress as a business selling point for its attendees especially for those exhibiting their company’s services and products.
Attending the congress, among other ANLCA members, are Chairman ANLCA Apapa Chapter, Mr. Olumide Fakanlu, and his treasurer, Hajia Bola Muse, who are also exhibiting their company’s products and services.
