Tin Can port observes health week

The Tin Can Island Port Complex (TCIPC), Lagos, penultimate Thursday observed its health week tagged Fitness for All.
The event was flagged off by the Port Manager, Mr. Babatunde Longe, who urged workers at the port to be mindful of their eating habits and ensure regular exercise.
Longe stated that as “custodians of the gateway to the nation’s economy, we cannot but strive to be healthy because as it is stated; a healthy nation is a wealthy nation.”
TCIPC Public Relations Officer, Kingsley Ukabiala, told SHIPS & PORTS DAILY that the health week, midwifed by the Occupational Health Department of the port, will be observed regularly to ensure a healthy workforce.

“The event concentrated on the fitness of our bodies where due to the sedentary nature of our various schedules, workers went through routine checks to ascertain the state of our fitness through our weights and blood pressure,” Ukabiala said.
He said a prelude to the event was an awareness fitness jog that took the workers through the access road to the second gate and industrial estate of the port from the first gate and administration building.
“On hand to checkmate any eventuality were NPA doctors, nurses, port police command, NPA security and the safety department,” Ukabiala added.
