Truck driver docked for causing multiple accidents

A 51-year-old truck driver, Sunday Banjo was arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court sitting in Lagos for allegedly causing multiple accidents which led to the death of an 8-year-old girl.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge brought against him by the prosecutor.

The prosecuting counsel told the court that defendant committed the offences on April 22, 2017 at about 1:45am at Anyman Canteen, Tin-Can Island Port Apapa, Lagos. 

He said Banjo, being the driver of a Mack Truck with registration number GGE 14 AG drove same vehicle in a reckless and dangerous manner causing the death of an unidentified girl of about 8 years of age and also causing serious bodily injuries to a commercial motorcyclist known as John Musa.

The prosecutor said the offences contravened sections 19(1), 20 and 18(1) of the criminal laws of Lagos State, 2011.

The Magistrate, A.I.O Alaka (Mrs) granted the defendant bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum.  The matter was referred to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for advice.

She adjourned the case till June 6, 2017 for mention.
