A 24-year-old truck driver, Emmanuel Amu, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stabling his colleague for failing to buy him beer at the Navy Camp Site, Kirikiri Town, Apapa, Lagos.
Amu is facing a two-count charge of assault and breach of peace.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Kolade Tedunjaye, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on December 4, 2019 at about 5pm.
“The defendant unlawfully assaulted one Joshua Obi by stabbing him severally on his body which caused him bodily injuries.
“He also threatened violence by brandishing dangerous weapon as broken bottles which caused pandemonium,” Tedunjaye said.
According to the prosecutor, the offences are punishable under sections 173 and 56 (1a & b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty. Magistrate F.J Adefioye granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The sureties are required to furnish the court with evidence of three years tax payment to Lagos State Government. One of the sureties must be a pastor and a blood relative of the defendant.
The Magistrate adjourned the matter till January 13, 2020 for mention.
