Man, naval officers assault truck driver

Fake travel agent docked for N265,000 visa fraud
A 21-year-old man, identified as Jubrin Hassan, was on Monday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting one truck driver in Kirikiri Town, Apapa.

Hassan is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, assault and stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on November 22, 2018 at about 5:30pm at Ilaje Street, Kirikiri Town, Apapa.

“The defendant conspired together with two other unknown Naval officers in assaulting one Emeka Okafor by forcefully ordering him to swim in a dirty gutter,” Ekpo said.

The prosecutor also said that the defendant stole the sum of N53,000 property of one Emeka Okafor.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411, 171 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.

Magistrate, Nurudeen Layeni granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.

According to the Magistrate, one of the sureties must be an Imam.

He adjourned the matter till December 12, 2018 for mention.
