Man steals phone, assaults truck driver

Four docked for stealing items worth N.7m at Apapa port

A 21-year-old man, identified as Chidi Enumah, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing phone and assaulting one truck driver, Mohammed Adamu.

Enumah is facing a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, stealing and assault.

The prosecutor, Inspector Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on November 26, 2018 at about 5:30pm at Ilaje Street, Kirikiri Town, Lagos.

“The defendant conspired together with others at large to steal one Tecno phone with MTN line valued at N8,000 property of one Mohammed Adamu,” Ekpo said.

The prosecutor also said that the defendant assaulted Adamu by giving him fist blow in his face causing him body harm.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411, 287 and 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.

Magistrate Nurudeen Layeni granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.

The sureties, according to the Magistrate must be gainfully employed and furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

One of the sureties must be a blood relative to the defendant.

He adjourned the case till December 20, 2018 for mention.
