Man allegedly steals cashew nuts, cocoa beans worth N7.5m

A 33-year-old man identified as Akinola Akinwunmi Muri was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing raw cashew nuts and cocoa beans worth N7.5 million at Apapa.

Muri is facing a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Ferdinard Asu, told the court that the defendant committed the offences between April 11th and August 27th, 2018 at Apapa.

“The defendant conspired together with others at large on April 11th, 2018 to steal 24 bags of raw cashew-nuts valued at N1, 170,000 property of Skysea Services Nigeria Limited at no 31b, Commercial Road, Apapa,” Asu said.

The prosecutor added that the defendant stole 4,089 metric tons of raw cocoa beans valued at N6,337,950 property of Skysea Services Nigeria Limited.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

Magistrate Mukaila Fadeyi granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties each in like sum.

The sureties, according to the Magistrate must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

He adjourned the matter till October 3, 2018 for mention.
