Truck driver steals 20 bags of cashew nuts

A 43-year-old truck driver, Adeniyi Omisore, was on Wednesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing 20 bags of cashew nuts in Lagos.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Marvellous Obongha told the court that the defendant committed the offences on March 18, 2019 along Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, Lagos.

“The defendant conspired together with one Fatai Oshiyemi who is at large to steal 20 bags of cashew nuts belonging to Rely Maritime Company. The value of the stolen bags of cashew nuts is yet to be known,” Obongha said.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411 and 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

Upon the not guilty plea entered by the defendant on the two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing, Magistrate K.A Ariyo granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must be gainfully employed and furnish the court with proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the case till May 8, 2019 for mention.
