A 37-year-old man identified as Abass Adeoye was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing 114 bags of sesame seeds in Apapa.
Adeoye is facing a two-count charge bothering on conspiracy and stealing.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Kolade Tedujaye told the court that the defendant committed the offences on May 23, 2018 at Apapa.
“The defendant conspired with others at large to steal 114 bags of sesame seeds valued at N2,622,000 property of ECS Nigeria Ltd,” Tedujaye said.
According to her, the offences are punishable under sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
Magistrate, Nurudeen Layeni granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties each in like sum.
The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the case till August 2, 2018 for mention.
Also, a 30-year-old tanker driver, Muritala Issa, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing diesel valued at N5,575,223.
Isaa is facing a two-count charge bothering on conspiracy and stealing.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Kolade Tedujaye told the court that the defendant committed the offences between 5th and 9th of July, 2018 at about 4:50pm along Apapa-Wharf Road.
“The defendant conspired with others at large to steal diesel valued at N5,575,223 property of Matrix Energy Limited,” Tedujaye said.
According to her, the offences are punishable under section 411 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.

The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

Meanwhile, an Apapa Magistrates’ Court sitting in Lagos on Friday remanded one surety, identified as Terna Ikpe, for allegedly forging a fake document.
Ikpe is facing a one-count charge bothering on forgery.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Marvellous Obongha, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on July 18, 2018 at about 1pm at no 1, Sikiru Adagun court premises of Ajegunle, Apapa, Lagos.
“The defendant forged a fake document to stand as a surety in pretence he knew to be false,” Obongha said.
According to him, the offence is punishable under section 365 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
Magistrate K.A Ariyo granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety.
The surety, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with evidence of three years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the case till September 3, 2018 for mention.
