A 32-year-old truck driver, Ibrahim Bankole, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing the sum of N125,000 belonging to Zenith Shipping Nigeria Limited.
Bankole is facing a one-count charge of stealing.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Friday Inedu, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on September 5, 2018 at about 5:30pm at No 1b Uzochukwu Obele Close, Off Ikogba Street, Alaun Osumba Estate, Maza-Maza, Lagos.
“The defendant being the driver in charge of a Mack Truck with registration number LSD 841 XL property of Zenith Shipping Nigeria Ltd, at Mile 2 area of Lagos did convert the sum of N125,000 belonging to Zenith Shipping Nigeria Ltd being represented by Paul Edeh into his personal use with the consent of the company management,” Inedu said.
According to him, the offence is punishable under section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.
Magistrate Temitope Babalola granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with two responsible sureties who must show evidence of being gainfully employed.
The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the case till October 8, 2018 for mention.
In a separate matter, a 22-year-old man, identified as Jelili Razak, was on Wednesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly damaging the front windscreen of a car at Apapa.
Razak is facing a one-count charge bordering on willful damage.
The prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Bassey, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on September 10, 2018 at 10:30am at Idewu Street, Olodi-Apapa.
“The defendant wilfully and unlawfully damaged one Mercedes Benz 814 front windscreen valued at N30,000 property of one Fatai Omotayo Idris,” Bassey said.
According to him, the offence is punishable under section 350 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
The defendant pleaded guilty to the charge against him.
Magistrate A.S Okubule adjourned the case till September 26, 2018 for facts and sentence.
