100-bags-of-charcoal

A 39-year-old truck driver, Akeem Adisa, who allegedly stole 100 bags of charcoal valued at N500,000, was on Thursday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing the goods.

Earlier, the prosecutor told the court that the defendant and others now at large committed the offence on December 16, 2016 at about 9am at the Coconut area of Olodi Apapa, Lagos.

He said the defendant stole 100 bags of charcoal valued N500,000 property of Adedeji Segun, who is an exporter.

The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 409 and 285 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011.

The Magistrate, Mrs O. Alaka, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties each in like sum. She said the sureties must be gainfully employed and should show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

Mrs Alaka adjourned the case till Jan. 16, 2017 for trial.
