A 34-year-old truck driver, Moses Anigala, was on Monday granted bail for the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum after his arraignment before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing 60 litres of diesel, iron chain and a sum of money all valued at N60,000 at the Kirikiri area of Lagos.
Anigala is facing a two-count charge of stealing and breach of peace. The prosecutor, Iyobosa Onaiwu, told the court that the defendant committed the offences between November 10 and December 22, 2018 at about 10am at Kirikiri.
“The defendant stole the sum of N35,000, one iron chain valued at N10,000 and 60 litres of diesel valued at N15,000. All totaling N60,000 property of one Edward Achonye,” Onaiwu said.
The prosecutor also said that the defendant conducted himself in a disorderly manner to cause breach of public peace by deliberately abandoned the Mack truck with registration number KJA 604 XK entrusted to his care on the expressway.
According to her, the offences are punishable under sections 287 and 168(a) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015. The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him. Magistrate O.S Abioye granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government. He adjourned the case till January 31, 2019 for mention.
