Trucker docked for driving without licence

Four docked for stealing items worth N.7m at Apapa port
A truck driver, identified as Sule Ajayi, was on Monday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly driving without licence, vehicle licence and other offences in Lagos.

Ajayi is facing a four-count charge of failure to produce driving licence, driving with expired vehicle licence, lack of tools and functioning light.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Marvellous Obongha, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on October 29, 2018 at about 8:30am along Oshodi/Apapa Expressway in Lagos.

“The defendant being the driver in charge of Mack truck with registration number AAA 920 XO drove same on the public highway and failed to produce driving licence on demand,” Obongha said.

The prosecutor also said that the defendant drove same vehicle with expired vehicle licence.

Obongha added that the vehicle lacked tools and no functioning light or head light.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 10, 3 Cap 124 of the Lagos State Traffic Law 2012.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to all the charges against him.

Magistrate, O. A Erinle granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The sureties, according to the Magistrate must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
